Teen Therapy
The kid you knew is still in there.
They used to play sports. Have friends. Sit at the dinner table.
Now they won’t leave their room, won’t do a single chore, and erupt at the smallest request. You’ve watched a once-vibrant child shrink down to a stranger behind a closed door.
You check on them at night, more than once. The house is all fighting and power struggles. The marriage is straining, and you don’t even know how to talk to your own kid anymore.
I’ve sat with families exactly here, and there is a way through.
I do the trauma work others avoid
I spent eight-plus years in residential treatment with the most complex teen cases. Self-harm and suicidality don’t make me pull back from the work.
A lot of therapists keep a teen in stabilization forever – you can coping-skill yourself to death. I keep the real trauma in view.
I use TF-CBT or EMDR to help your child’s brain file what happened so it stops ambushing them. DBT teaches them to ride the wave instead of drowning in it.
I’m a fighter. I’ll fight for your child when they can’t, and I’ll fight for you.

I work with the whole family, not just the teen
This isn’t an hour where your kid talks and you’re left guessing. I give you concrete parenting tools and help you rebuild connection.
I’m direct. I’ll tell you a hard truth other therapists won’t, and I’m nurturing right alongside it.
Together, we work so you can:
- Learn how to talk to your child again, instead of bracing for the next blowup.
- Get real parenting tools built for kids who’ve lived through trauma.
- Stop walking on eggshells and start enjoying your kid again.
- Trade the monthly two-line update for genuine family work.

My three phases for healing your teen
Building the foundation
First we build your child’s skills and knowledge: who they are, how trauma hit them, and healthy coping. They get steady enough to do the hard work.
Going through the muck
Now we process the trauma itself – the hard work that was too scary to face until now. This is where the real change happens, and the trauma stops running their life.
Planning for the future
We map out their triggers, how to manage them, and who belongs in their support system. We build connections and reasons to look forward, so they get a future worth dreaming toward.
Why families trust me with their teens
I’m licensed in both Iowa and Illinois and work online and in person, so your teen can get consistent care wherever you are. I’m trained in TF-CBT, EMDR, and CPT, and I use TBRI and attachment-based family therapy to help you parent a child who has been through trauma.
Trauma is not your child. It is not all they are, and it is not all they can be.
I See You
Don’t look behind you. I’m talking to you.
The kid who feels like they’re failing at everything, hurting themselves just to feel something, and self-medicating to keep going.
Everything feels out of control. Like a snowball rolling downhill.
Trauma doesn’t stay in one corner of your life. It infects every part of it.
You’ve tried locking it away. It keeps coming back.
You don’t want anyone to know what you’ve been through. Honestly, it’s embarrassing.
You didn’t choose any of this. But you’re the one living inside it, every day, wondering if it’s ever going to let up.

Here’s How I Can Help
Picture this: you pull on your favorite sweatshirt, wrap up in your coziest blanket, and find a comfortable spot. That’s it. That’s where we start.
You don’t have to walk into an office, perform, or have the right words. You just have to show up.
I’m not going to ask you to talk about everything on day one. You’ve got time to adjust.
Don’t worry about censoring yourself. Therapy is your anchor in the storm. It can withstand anything you throw at it. In fact, being raw and vulnerable here will lead to healing.
How We Process What Happened
We’ll use one of two specific modalities to help you process through what’s happened. They are Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
These two approaches are specifically designed for healing trauma. TF-CBT helps you process what happened while building real skills to manage triggers when they ambush you. EMDR helps your brain file those memories away properly so they stop hijacking your mind and body without warning.
We’ll build healthy coping strategies so you can take care of yourself as therapy unfolds.
We will explore your emotions and negative beliefs. We’ll create a timeline of all the crap that’s happened.
Then, we start rewriting the story. Not what happened. How you think about what you’ve lived through and how much power it has over you.
You get to decide the impact it has on you and what you take away.
